Pessary Fitting Physiotherapy

Regain Comfort and Peace of Mind

A pessary fitting assessment with a physiotherapist is a specialized session for individuals experiencing pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence. The physiotherapist will begin by reviewing your medical history, symptoms, and goals. With your consent, they will perform a pelvic exam to assess the size and type of pessary most suitable for your anatomy and condition. Several pessary options may be trialed to ensure comfort, effectiveness, and ease of use. You will receive education on pessary care, insertion, removal, and follow-up. The session is conducted in a supportive and respectful environment focused on comfort and personalized care.

What You Need to Know

  • What is a pessary?

A pessary is a soft, removable device that is placed in the vagina to help provide support when experiencing organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). They come in a variety of shapes and sizes so your physiotherapist can help you select the one that is the best fit for you. It is a conservative route of care that can provide significant improvement in quality of life and comfort for those suffering from general urinary incontinence, stress incontinence, and discomfort from organ prolapse.
